Back to Uni Advice

First year of uni was amazing. I met some amazing people, made some amazing friends and I’m enjoy the city my uni is in. Here are some tips that I discovered that I think will help you along the way.

1. DON’T BUY BOOKS WITHOUT CHECKING IF YOU HAVE THEM IN YOUR LIBRARY

Majority of the time lecturers will tell you to buy books and they can be really expensive. Before buying them check if your library has the book you need, if they don’t you can just request for them to get it. You can also just renew the book or photocopy important chapters you need which turns out cheaper.

2. BE AUTHENTIC AND GENUINE

A lot of people come to university for a fresh start which is okay but don’t pretend to be someone you’re not. Being yourself is really important because it helps you find friends you truly connect with. There’s no need to keep up a facade; and it is very likely that if you go to university in the same area or county you live, someone will know someone who knows you.

3. MAKE SURE TO COMPLETE ASSIGNMENTS ON TIME

This goes without saying. Sometimes when given assignments it is easy to just leave it until the last minute before completing it. After being given the assignments make mind maps of how your going to structure it and the topics you’re going to talk about. This makes it easy for you to do research when completing the assignments. The earlier you start the better the grade you achieve; and you’ll more likely to be stress free.

4. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE

Honestly for time this is the hardest one. There’s not time for procrastination. When it comes to uni and even being at home; getting everything done on time helps productivity. Setting reminders maybe on your phone; or setting short terms goals helps to improve productivity and can make you feel more accomplished.

5. MAKE THE EFFORT TO MAKE FRIENDS

Apparently university is the place you’re supposed to find your friends for life. When arriving everyone is on the same boat and is willing to meet new people. Being the first person to say hello to some or smiling at someone can not only change someone’s day; it’s a confidence booster and it’s a great way to meet people. When you say hello to someone first; you may not end up making conversation with everyone but familiarising yourself with people can make things easier.

I hope this helps, please comment content you would like to see and like if you enjoyed this read.
